Choose a sunny spot or a bright windowsill
Use well-draining soil or a container with drainage holes
Plant green onion seeds or set the white root ends in soil
Space plants about 1 to 2 inches apart
Keep the soil evenly moist, not soggy
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
Harvest when the green tops are 6 to 8 inches tall
Cut the greens about 1 inch above the soil
Leave the roots in place for regrowth
Feed lightly with balanced fertilizer if needed
