Choose a healthy, firm garlic bulb
Separate the bulb into individual cloves
Keep the papery skin on each clove
Select the largest, healthiest cloves for planting
Plant cloves in well-drained soil
Place each clove root end down and pointed end up
Plant cloves about 2 inches deep
Space cloves 4 to 6 inches apart
Space rows about 12 inches apart
Water lightly after planting
Keep soil moist but not soggy
Plant in full sun
Mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds
Remove weeds as they appear
Feed with a balanced fertilizer if needed
Let the tops grow through the season
Reduce watering as bulbs mature
Harvest when lower leaves turn brown
Lift bulbs carefully from the soil
Cure bulbs in a dry, airy place
Store cured garlic in a cool, dry location
