Use condoms correctly every time during vaginal, anal, and oral sex
Limit the number of sexual partners
Get tested regularly for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
Know your partner’s HIV status
Take PrEP if you are at high risk of HIV
Take PEP within 72 hours after possible HIV exposure
Do not share needles, syringes, or other injection equipment
Use only sterile needles and equipment for tattoos, piercings, and injections
Seek treatment for sexually transmitted infections promptly
If pregnant and HIV-positive, get medical care to prevent transmission to the baby
If HIV-positive, take antiretroviral therapy as prescribed to reduce transmission risk
Avoid sharing razors, toothbrushes, or items that may have blood on them
Use screened blood and safe medical procedures
Practice safer sex and avoid sex when impaired by alcohol or drugs
Get accurate HIV education and prevention counseling
