Drink water or an oral rehydration solution
Sip water steadily; avoid chugging
Drink an electrolyte drink (or water with electrolytes)
Eat something light (toast, bananas, rice, soup, eggs)
Take a small amount of carbs plus protein if you can tolerate it
Avoid greasy, heavy, or very spicy foods
Rest in a cool, dark room
Take a shower to feel better (not too hot)
Use a cold compress for headache or nausea
For headache: take ibuprofen or naproxen with food
For headache: take acetaminophen only if you have not been drinking recently and you can keep it within label limits
Avoid taking more alcohol to “cure” it
Avoid acetaminophen if you’re still drinking heavily or have liver disease
Avoid mixing multiple pain relievers
Get fresh air briefly if it helps you feel less nauseated
If nauseated: take small sips of water; try ginger tea or ginger chews
If vomiting: keep hydrating with small sips or oral rehydration solution
Consider caffeine only in small amounts if you can tolerate it; drink water alongside
Avoid strenuous exercise until you feel better
If symptoms are severe or unusual (confusion, repeated vomiting, fainting, trouble breathing, black/bloody vomit or stool, severe abdominal pain), seek urgent medical care
