Pat cube steaks dry with paper towels
Season both sides with salt, pepper, and any desired spices
Dredge in flour if you want a coated crust
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat
Sear the cube steaks for 2 to 3 minutes per side
Remove the steaks from the skillet
Add sliced onions or mushrooms if desired
Pour in beef broth, water, or gravy ingredients
Scrape up browned bits from the pan
Return the cube steaks to the skillet
Cover and simmer on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes
Check that the meat is tender before serving
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables
