How To Cook Cube Steak?

Pat cube steak dry with paper towels

Season both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika

Lightly dredge in flour (optional: season flour with the same spices)

Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat with 1–2 tablespoons oil

Sear cube steak 2–4 minutes per side until browned

Reduce heat to low

Add 1/2–1 cup broth or water (or enough to come about halfway up the steak)

Add sliced onions and/or mushrooms (optional)

Cover and simmer 45–75 minutes until tender

For gravy: remove steaks to a plate, whisk in 1–2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch slurry, simmer 2–5 minutes

Return steaks to skillet to coat in gravy, simmer 2–5 minutes

Rest 5 minutes before serving

Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles
