Rinse with warm salt water several times a day

Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush
Avoid alcohol and tobacco
Suck on ice chips or use a cold compress on the outside of the mouth
Keep the mouth clean
Avoid biting or irritating the ulcer
See a dentist or doctor if it lasts more than 2 weeks, gets worse, or keeps coming back
