Gather ground beef, salt, pepper, oil, buns, and desired toppings
Divide the beef into equal portions
Gently form each portion into a patty
Make a small indentation in the center of each patty
Season both sides with salt and pepper
Heat a skillet or pan over medium-high heat
Add a small amount of oil to the pan
Place the patties in the hot pan
Cook without pressing down on the patties
Flip once the bottom is browned
Cook the other side until done to your preferred temperature
Add cheese during the last minute if desired
Toast the buns in the pan if desired
Remove the burgers from the pan
Assemble with buns and toppings
Serve immediately
