Check that the battery is charged and the terminals are clean and tight
Put the transmission in Park or Neutral and set the parking brake
Turn the key to the start position while lightly tapping the starter motor with a tool or hammer handle
Try starting the car in Neutral if it does not start in Park
Turn the key to ON and use a remote starter switch if available
Jump-start the car if the battery is weak
Inspect and clean the starter relay and fuse connections
Check the starter wiring for loose or corroded connections
Push-start the car only if it is a manual transmission
Call for roadside assistance or a mechanic if the starter still does not engage
