Gather materials: shadow box frame, backing board, mat board, adhesive, ruler, pencil, cutting tool, and display items
Choose the items you want to display
Measure the items and the inside dimensions of the shadow box
Plan the layout on paper or directly on the backing board
Cut mat board or spacers if you want depth between the glass and the items
Cut the backing board to fit the frame if needed
Arrange the items on the backing board
Secure the items with archival adhesive, pins, mounts, or small brackets
Add labels, photos, or decorative paper if desired
Place the backing board into the shadow box frame
Close and secure the frame
Attach hanging hardware if needed
Hang or display the shadow box in the desired location
