Stop the activity that caused the pain
Rest the groin area
Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day for the first 48 hours
Use compression with a snug wrap if comfortable
Elevate the leg when possible
Take over-the-counter pain relief if safe for you
Avoid stretching or exercising through pain
Gradually return to activity only when pain-free
Seek medical care if pain is severe, swelling is significant, bruising appears, walking is difficult, or symptoms do not improve
Get urgent medical help if there is a bulge, testicular pain, numbness, fever, or sudden worsening pain
