Open your Google Docs document
Place the cursor where you want the footnote number to appear
Click Insert in the top menu
Select Footnote
Type your footnote text at the bottom of the page
Use the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+F on Windows or Cmd+Option+F on Mac to insert a footnote quickly
