Open the group text conversation
Tap the group name, chat header, or details icon
Select Add contact, Add people, or Add participant
Choose the person from your contacts
Confirm the addition
If you do not see an add option, start a new group with the person included
On iPhone, use iMessage group settings if the group supports adding members
On Android, use the Messages app group details if the carrier and app support it
