Wash and scrub the yams thoroughly
Pat the yams dry
Pierce each yam several times with a fork
Place the yams on a baking sheet
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, depending on size
Check for doneness by inserting a fork or knife into the center
Remove from the oven when tender
Let the yams cool slightly before serving
Peel or slice open and serve as desired
