Be at least 18 years old
Be legally competent under Japanese law
Have lived in Japan continuously for at least 5 years
Have lived in Japan for at least 3 of the last 5 years if married to a Japanese national in some cases
Have a stable source of income or assets
Have good conduct and no serious criminal record
Be willing to renounce your current nationality
Submit a naturalization application to the Legal Affairs Bureau
Provide required documents such as residence records, tax records, employment proof, and identity documents
Attend interviews and follow requests from the Ministry of Justice
Wait for the application review and approval
Take the oath and complete the naturalization registration process
