Meet the eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be a legal resident of Oklahoma or a resident of a state bordering Oklahoma and work in Oklahoma
Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
Be able to read and write English
Have no felony conviction, or have had civil rights restored if applicable
Complete the Oklahoma notary application
Obtain a surety bond
Purchase a $1,000 surety bond for a 4-year term
File the bond with the Oklahoma Secretary of State
Submit the application and required fee to the Oklahoma Secretary of State
Wait for approval from the Secretary of State
Receive your commission certificate
Buy a notary seal or stamp
Record your commission information if required by your employer or county procedures
Begin performing notarial acts within the scope of Oklahoma law
Renew your commission before it expires
Keep your bond and seal current throughout your commission term
