Rinse the groundnuts thoroughly under running water
Soak them in water for 6 to 8 hours or overnight
Drain the soaking water
Place the groundnuts in a pot
Add enough fresh water to fully cover them
Add salt if desired
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce the heat to a simmer
Cover the pot partially
Cook until the groundnuts are soft, about 1 to 3 hours depending on size and freshness
Add more water during cooking if needed
Check for doneness by tasting a few groundnuts
Drain the boiled groundnuts
Serve warm or let them cool before eating
