Gather braiding hair, a rat-tail comb, hair clips, edge control or gel, a spray bottle with water, and hair ties
Detangle your natural hair thoroughly
Part your hair into the sections you want to braid
Clip away the sections you are not working on
Apply gel or edge control to the section you will braid
Separate a small piece of braiding hair for the first braid
Fold the braiding hair in half if needed
Place the braiding hair at the root of your natural hair section
Divide your natural hair into three strands
Begin a regular braid with your natural hair and the braiding hair together
Add small amounts of braiding hair as you braid downward
Keep tension even while braiding
Continue braiding until you reach the ends
Secure the braid with a small hair tie or by sealing the ends if the hair allows
Repeat the process for each section
Smooth flyaways with gel or edge control
Trim any uneven ends if needed
