Wear them around the house for short periods
Use them for short walks first
Do a few easy runs of 10 to 20 minutes
Increase run time gradually over several outings
Alternate with your old shoes at first
Wear the socks you plan to run in
Make sure the laces are snug but not too tight
Check for hot spots or rubbing after each use
Stop and adjust if you feel pain or pinching
Let the shoes flex naturally during break-in
Avoid long runs or races until they feel comfortable
Keep the shoes dry and clean during the break-in period
