Choose healthy, mature breeding pair
Condition male and female separately with high-protein foods for 1 to 2 weeks
Prepare a breeding tank with 5 to 10 gallons of warm, shallow water
Use a heater to keep water around 78 to 82°F
Add a gentle sponge filter or no filter
Add floating plants or a betta breeding leaf
Place the male in the breeding tank first
Introduce the female in a clear divider or separate container
Watch for the male to build a bubble nest
Release the female only when both fish show readiness
Remove the female after spawning
Leave the male to care for the eggs
Remove the male after fry become free-swimming
Feed fry with infusoria or liquid fry food at first
Gradually switch fry to baby brine shrimp or microworms
Perform small, careful water changes
Separate growing fry as needed to prevent aggression
Keep only healthy fish for future breeding
Avoid breeding weak, sick, or closely related bettas
