How To Breed Crickets?

Set up a secure, well-ventilated breeding container with a lid

Use a large plastic tub, aquarium, or tote with smooth sides

Add egg cartons, cardboard tubes, or egg flats for hiding and climbing

Keep the enclosure warm, around 80–90°F

Maintain moderate humidity with a slightly moist substrate or moist breeding area

Provide a shallow food dish with cricket feed, grains, or commercial insect chow

Offer fresh water using water gel, damp cotton, or a sponge to prevent drowning

Keep males and females together in the breeding container

Identify females by the long egg-laying ovipositor at the rear

Provide a separate laying container filled with moist soil, coconut fiber, or vermiculite

Place the laying container inside the breeding enclosure

Let females lay eggs in the substrate for several days

Remove the egg-laying container before eggs hatch to prevent adults from eating them

Incubate the eggs in a warm, humid environment

Keep the egg substrate slightly moist, not wet

Wait for nymphs to hatch in about 1–3 weeks depending on temperature

Move hatchlings to a separate rearing container

Feed nymphs the same diet in smaller pieces

Keep the rearing container clean and remove dead crickets regularly

Separate sizes if needed to reduce cannibalism

Maintain consistent warmth, food, and moisture throughout growth

Harvest adults when they reach the desired size or age
