Choose a feeder type
Gather materials
Measure and cut the wood or other base material
Sand all rough edges
Drill drainage holes in the bottom
Drill holes for hanging or mounting
Assemble the feeder frame
Attach the roof or cover
Add perches if needed
Secure all joints with screws or weatherproof glue
Apply non-toxic outdoor sealant if desired
Let the feeder dry completely
Fill with birdseed
Hang or mount the feeder in a safe location
Clean and refill the feeder regularly
