Measure the length of each item in feet
If the measurement is in inches, divide by 12 to convert to feet
If the measurement is in yards, multiply by 3 to convert to feet
Add all lengths together to get the total linear feet
Use the formula: linear feet = total length in feet
For multiple pieces, sum each piece’s length in feet
For irregular shapes, measure only the straight length being counted
Keep all measurements in the same unit before adding them together
