The longest line between inch marks is usually the 1/2-inch mark
The next longest lines are usually the 1/4-inch and 3/4-inch marks
Shorter lines usually represent 1/8-inch and 1/16-inch marks
Start at zero and move right to measure length
Match the object’s end point to the nearest ruler mark
Write the measurement as inches and fractions of an inch if needed
