Hold the rod with your dominant hand and the line with your other hand
Let out enough line so about 8 to 10 feet extends beyond the rod tip
Strip the line in smooth pulls until you have the desired amount out
Raise the rod tip to about shoulder height
Start the back cast by moving the rod backward smoothly and quickly
Pause briefly as the line straightens behind you
Move the rod forward in a straight path
Stop the rod abruptly at about eye level
Let the line unroll in front of you
Release the line from your non-dominant hand as needed
Lower the rod tip gently to place the fly on the water
Repeat the back cast and forward cast if you need more distance
Keep your wrist firm and use your forearm and elbow to cast
Aim for a smooth acceleration and a crisp stop
Avoid making wide casting arcs
Practice timing so the line fully extends before each direction change
