Park on a flat, level surface away from traffic.
Engage the parking brake.
Turn on hazard lights.
Set the transmission to Park (automatic) or Reverse (manual).
Have passengers move to a safe location away from the roadway.
Locate the spare tire, jack, lug wrench, and wheel chocks.
Place wheel chocks on the opposite side of the tire being changed.
Loosen the lug nuts slightly (do not remove) while the tire is still on the ground.
Position the jack at the vehicle’s approved jack point for the corner being serviced.
Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground.
Remove the lug nuts and place them where they won’t roll away.
Remove the flat tire.
Install the spare tire onto the hub, aligning the holes with the studs.
Hand-tighten the lug nuts until snug.
Lower the vehicle until the spare tire contacts the ground.
Tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross/star pattern.
Lower the vehicle fully and remove the jack.
Check that the spare tire is securely tightened and seated properly.
Stow the flat tire, tools, and wheel chocks.
Verify the spare tire type and follow any speed/usage limits.
Check tire pressure as soon as possible and adjust to the recommended value.
Recheck lug nut tightness after driving a short distance (per vehicle instructions).
