Turn off the pool pump and power at the breaker
Close all valves connected to the filter
Release the pressure from the filter tank
Remove the multiport valve or filter top as required
Disconnect plumbing and any fittings attached to the filter
Open the filter tank
Scoop out the old sand or use a wet/dry vacuum
Remove the standpipe carefully
Inspect the laterals, standpipe, and tank for damage
Replace any broken laterals or worn parts
Reinstall the standpipe and laterals
Cover the standpipe opening to keep sand out
Add water to the bottom of the tank if required by the manufacturer
Pour in the new filter sand to the correct level
Clean the tank rim and reinstall the multiport valve or top
Reconnect all plumbing and fittings
Open the valves
Backwash the filter
Rinse the filter
Return the valve to filter mode
Turn the pump on and check for leaks
Monitor pressure and backwash again if needed
