Turn off the pool pump and power to the salt system
Remove the salt cell from the plumbing
Inspect the cell for visible scale or debris
Rinse the cell with a garden hose
Mix a cleaning solution of 1 part muriatic acid to 4 parts water
Add acid to water, never water to acid
Place the cell in a plastic bucket
Pour the solution into the bucket until the plates are covered
Let the cell soak for 5 to 15 minutes
Check for bubbling and stop soaking when scaling is gone
Do not soak too long
Pour the used solution into a safe disposal container as directed by local rules
Rinse the cell thoroughly with clean water
Reinstall the cell in the plumbing
Restore power and turn the system back on
Check for leaks and proper operation
Clean the cell only when scaling is present
Wear gloves and eye protection
Never use metal tools or abrasive cleaners on the cell
