Park on level ground
Turn off the engine
Wait 5 to 10 minutes for the oil to settle
Open the hood
Find the dipstick
Pull the dipstick out
Wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth or paper towel
Reinsert the dipstick fully
Pull it out again
Check the oil level against the marks on the dipstick
Check the oil color and consistency
Add oil if the level is low
Recheck the level after adding oil
Close the hood securely
