Use a bright light and a mirror
Part your hair in small sections
Check the scalp, behind the ears, and the nape of the neck
Look for live lice moving on the scalp or hair
Look for nits attached firmly to hair shafts near the scalp
Use a fine-toothed lice comb over white paper or a white towel
Wipe the comb after each pass and inspect for lice or nits
Check for itching, tickling, or scalp irritation
Ask someone else to inspect hard-to-see areas if possible
Repeat the check every few days if you suspect exposure
