Apply a warm compress to the area for 10–15 minutes at a time
Rest and get plenty of sleep
Drink enough fluids
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if safe for you
Avoid squeezing, rubbing, or massaging the swollen node
Treat the underlying cause, such as a cold, sore throat, or infection
Use saltwater gargles if the swollen node is related to a throat infection
Keep the area clean if there is any skin infection nearby
Monitor the swelling for changes in size, pain, or duration
See a doctor if the swelling lasts more than 2–4 weeks, gets larger, or is accompanied by fever, night sweats, weight loss, or trouble breathing or swallowing
