Place your luggage in the bathroom or on a luggage rack away from the bed
Turn on the lights and inspect the mattress seams, piping, and tags
Check the box spring, especially corners and edges
Look behind the headboard and along the bed frame
Inspect upholstered chairs, sofas, and curtains
Search for live bugs, shed skins, tiny white eggs, and dark fecal spots
Check sheets, pillowcases, and mattress covers for stains or spots
Use a flashlight to inspect cracks, seams, and crevices
Examine nearby furniture, baseboards, and wall outlets
Keep luggage sealed and off the floor during the inspection
If you find signs of bed bugs, request a different room far from the original room
Recheck the new room before unpacking
After the stay, inspect and heat-treat clothing and luggage when you get home
