Open the Instagram app
Tap the Messenger icon in the top right
View your Direct Messages inbox
Tap any conversation to open it
Check message requests if you do not see a message
On desktop, go to Instagram.com and click the Messenger icon
If needed, refresh the app or log out and back in to update messages
