Wash or sanitize your hands
Clean the thermometer if needed
Turn on the thermometer if it is digital
Place the thermometer correctly based on the type
Oral: put the tip under the tongue and close the mouth
Armpit: place the tip in the center of the dry armpit and hold the arm down
Rectal: apply lubricant and insert gently as directed for that thermometer
Ear: place the tip gently in the ear canal and aim correctly
Forehead: scan across the forehead as directed
Wait until the thermometer finishes reading
Read the displayed temperature
Clean the thermometer after use
Wash your hands again after use
