For a range of verses, use a hyphen: John 3:16-18
For multiple separate verses, use commas: John 3:16, 21
For multiple chapters, include each chapter and verse: John 3:16; 4:1-3
Include the translation if required: John 3:16 (NIV)
In APA style, cite the version in the reference list, not in the in-text citation
In MLA style, cite the Bible version in the works cited if required by your instructor or style guide
In Chicago style, cite the Bible in footnotes or endnotes with the book, chapter, and verse
Use standard abbreviations for Bible books when appropriate
Capitalize book names
Do not italicize Bible book names unless your style guide requires it
