Turn off the disposal and unplug it or switch off the circuit breaker

Remove any visible debris with tongs or pliers

Run cold water into the sink

Pour ice cubes into the disposal

Add coarse salt if desired

Turn on the disposal and let it grind the ice and salt

Pour baking soda into the drain

Add white vinegar and let it fizz for a few minutes

Rinse with cold water

Cut a lemon or lime into small pieces and grind briefly with cold water

Flush with cold water for several seconds

Wipe the splash guard with a sponge or brush and dish soap

Repeat regularly to prevent buildup and odors
