Wash your hands
Use saline drops or spray made for babies
Lay the baby on their back with the head slightly tilted
Put 1 to 2 saline drops in each nostril
Wait a few seconds
Use a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator to gently remove mucus
Squeeze the bulb before placing it in the nostril
Insert the tip only slightly into the nostril
Release the bulb slowly to suction mucus
Empty and clean the syringe after each use
Wipe the nose gently with a soft tissue or cloth
Use a cool-mist humidifier if the air is dry
Keep the baby hydrated with regular feeds
Do not use cotton swabs inside the nose
Do not suction too often
Contact a doctor if breathing is difficult, fever is present, or congestion is severe
