Turn off the vehicle and remove the key
Wear gloves and safety glasses
Disconnect the negative battery cable first
Disconnect the positive battery cable second
Mix baking soda with water
Apply the mixture to the battery posts and corrosion
Scrub the posts with a battery terminal brush or wire brush
Wipe away residue with a clean damp cloth
Dry the posts completely
Clean the cable ends the same way
Reconnect the positive cable first
Reconnect the negative cable second
Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly or terminal protectant to help prevent future corrosion
