Unplug the aquarium equipment

Remove and set aside any decorations if needed

Use a fish-safe algae scraper to clean the glass

Siphon out 20–30% of the water

Vacuum the gravel or substrate during water removal

Rinse filter media in old tank water only

Clean the filter housing if needed

Wipe down the outside glass with a clean cloth

Refill the tank with dechlorinated water at the same temperature

Restart the equipment

Check water temperature and filter operation

Test water parameters regularly

Clean the tank on a weekly schedule
