Turn off the grill and let grates cool slightly but keep them warm enough to loosen residue
Remove grates and brush off loose debris with a grill brush
Soak grates in hot, soapy water for 15–30 minutes (use a degreaser-safe soak if heavily soiled)
Scrape remaining buildup with a grill scraper or stiff brush
For stubborn grease or carbon:
Make a paste of baking soda and water, apply to grates, and let sit 30–60 minutes
Scrub thoroughly and rinse well
For extra degreasing (optional):
Spray with an oven/grill degreaser rated safe for grates, let dwell per label, then scrub and rinse
Rinse grates thoroughly with clean water to remove all cleaner residue
Dry completely with a clean towel or let air-dry fully
Lightly oil grates with a high-heat cooking oil before using again
Clean the grill interior (drip tray and bottom) and wipe surrounding surfaces while grates dry
For routine maintenance:
Brush grates after preheating and after each cook while still warm
