Remove excess paint by wiping the brush on a rag or paper towel
Rinse the brush in the appropriate solvent for the paint type
Work the bristles gently with your fingers to release paint
Repeat rinsing until the liquid runs mostly clear
Wash with warm water and mild soap if using water-based paint
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap or solvent
Comb the bristles with your fingers or a brush comb
Reshape the bristles to their original form
Shake out excess water
Lay the brush flat or hang it to dry
Store the brush once completely dry
