Connect the monitor to your laptop with the correct cable
Connect the monitor to power and turn it on
Open your laptop
Go to Display settings
Set the monitor as the main display if needed
Choose Duplicate or Extend display mode
Plug in the laptop charger
Open Control Panel or Power settings
Set the laptop to do nothing when the lid is closed
Save the power setting changes
Close the laptop lid
Use the external monitor, keyboard, and mouse
