Open Safari on your iPad
Tap the Tabs button in the top-right corner
Press and hold the tab thumbnail you want to close
Tap Close Tab
To close all tabs, press and hold the Tabs button
Tap Close All Tabs
To close tabs in a tab group, open the tab group first
Tap and hold a tab thumbnail, then tap Close Tab
To close a tab from the tab overview, swipe the tab thumbnail left
To close tabs in another browser app, tap the Tabs button or tab switcher and close each tab individually
