Unplug the iron and let it cool completely
Remove the iron and any items from the board
Locate the locking lever, release button, or latch under the board
Hold the board steady with one hand
Release the lock or latch
Lower the board slowly toward the folded position
Keep fingers clear of the hinge and frame
Engage any storage clip or safety lock if present
Store the folded ironing board upright or in its designated place
