Open Google Photos
Select the photos or videos you want to compress
Back up the originals if needed before making changes
Download the selected files to your device
Use a file compression app or online compressor to reduce file size
Convert large images to JPEG if they are in a larger format like PNG or HEIC
Reduce image dimensions before saving
Lower the quality setting when exporting or saving compressed copies
For videos, use a video compressor app to reduce resolution and bitrate
Replace the original files with the compressed versions if desired
Upload the compressed files back to Google Photos
Delete the original large files from Google Photos if you want to save storage
Empty the trash in Google Photos to free up space
Turn on Storage saver in Google Photos backup settings for future uploads
