Check your blood sugar now
If you use insulin, take only the correction dose prescribed by your clinician
Drink water
Stop eating sugary foods and drinks
Eat a small amount of protein or fiber if you need a snack
Take a short walk if your blood sugar is not very high and you feel well
Recheck your blood sugar in 15 to 30 minutes if it is low, or in 1 to 2 hours if it is high
If your blood sugar is below 70 mg/dL, take 15 grams of fast-acting carbohydrate
If you have severe low blood sugar, use glucagon if available and call emergency services
If your blood sugar is above 300 mg/dL, check for ketones if you can
Avoid exercise if you have high blood sugar with ketones or feel unwell
Seek urgent medical help if you have confusion, vomiting, trouble breathing, chest pain, or cannot keep fluids down
