Scrub potatoes clean and dry them

Poke each potato several times with a fork

Rub potatoes with oil (optional)

Sprinkle with salt (optional)

Place potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet

Bake for 45–60 minutes (depending on size), until skins are crisp and centers are tender

Flip potatoes halfway through (optional)

Check doneness by inserting a knife or fork into the center; it should slide in easily

Remove from oven and let rest 5 minutes

Cut a slit lengthwise down the center and gently squeeze ends to fluff
