Remove the New York strip from the refrigerator 30 to 45 minutes before cooking

Preheat the oven to 400°F
Heat an oven-safe skillet over high heat on the stovetop
Add a small amount of oil to the skillet
Sear the steak for 2 to 3 minutes per side
Add butter, garlic, and herbs if desired
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven
Roast until the steak reaches your desired doneness
Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer
Remove the steak from the oven
Let the steak rest for 5 to 10 minutes
Slice against the grain and serve
