Rinse 1 cup of basmati rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Soak the rice in water for 20 to 30 minutes, then drain
Add the rice to the rice cooker
Add 1.5 cups of water for 1 cup of basmati rice
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Close the lid and start the rice cooker
Let the rice cook until the cooker switches to warm
Leave the rice covered for 5 to 10 minutes after cooking
Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving
