Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top
Pat the chicken dry
Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and any desired spices
Place the chicken on the wire rack
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes
Remove the chicken from the oven
Brush barbecue sauce over the chicken
Return the chicken to the oven
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes more
Brush on another layer of barbecue sauce
Bake until the chicken reaches 165°F internally
Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving
