Pat the fish dry
Season the fish with salt, pepper, and any desired herbs or spices
Lightly oil a baking dish or line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Place the fish in the dish or on the sheet
Add lemon slices or a small amount of butter or oil if desired
Bake until the fish flakes easily with a fork
Check for doneness at 10 to 15 minutes for most fillets
Remove from the oven
Serve immediately
